Select Tool

The application is compatible with several different bluetooth laser distance meters and can use the iOS device’s internal inclinometer and compass. These can be used when taking measurements.

The tool icon is shown top bar if there are tools available.
If multiple tools available, long press icon to change the tool.
The Bluetooth laser is always the primary tool and is automatically selected if available.

Laser

The On-Axis application can be paired with a compatible laser distance finder via Bluetooth. This enables the measured distance and angle to be transferred wirelessly.  Check the compatibility chart for supported devices and Bluetooth guide for help with the connection.

Turn on Bluetooth on your IOS device as well as on the laser.
Allow On-Axis application to access Bluetooth. (IOS Settings —> On-Axis —> Bluetooth)
Go to the application settings and turn on the search. Compatible devices will connect automatically.

Step 1 – Activate

Step 2 – Take Measurement

Take a measurement. Distance and Angle values will automatically tranfer to On-Axis via Bluetooth connection.
If the laser supports the remote control function, you can trigger the measurement remotely from the application by pressing the white trigger button.

Step 3 – Assign Values

Assign the values in to the input field.
Note

You can also get values by first pressing the assign button, so it goes into receiving mode, after which the taken measurement jumps to that line.

Inclinometer

The internal inclinometer of the iOS device can be used to find the vertical angle. It has a limited but surprisingly useful accuracy when there is no better options available. If your laser distance meter does not have an inclinometer for measuring the angle, this is a good alternative.

Step 1 – Activate

Step 2 – Measure

For eaxmple, align your IOS device on top of your laser distance finder and use the inclinometer to read the angle.

Step 2 – Assign Values

Assign the inclinometer value in to the input field.

Magnetometer

The internal magnetometer also known as compass can be used to find the horizontal angle.

The earth’s magnetic field is pretty weak so compasses are upset by any magnetic interference. Keep the device away from any magnet, metal objects, or electrical devices.
Hold your compass flat.
The compass may not work properly inside of buildings and depending on your geographic location, the angle of declination may vary from other locations, as the geographic and magnetic poles are aligned.

Step 1 – Activate

Step 2 – Set the Reference

Point the compass in the reference direction and press the “Set Reference” button.

Step 3 – Measure

Once the reference is set, the compass measures the horizontal angle relative to the reference.

Step 4 – Assign Values

Assign the magnetometer value in to the input field.
Note

The magnetometer can be used in the Basic venue if the width mode is set to: “calculate width from angle”.
